What is a “Mini-split” system?
Mini-splits are named for their split design, which features no ductwork. They are stand-alone units that can be used to warm or cool a single room, a utility building, garage, office or addition like a sun room, family room extension, or to supplement a room in which the existing HVAC system is simply unable to do the job without some help. Mini-splits are energy quiet, efficient and relatively easy and inexpensive to install.
Mini-splits use an outdoor unit and one or more indoor units, making them ideal for supplemental heating and cooling or to serve a specific room or area rather than the entire home or building. Because they are ductless, they are extremely flexible and take up little room. They also are ideal for historic structures, where installing ductwork would be costly, impractical or damage the building’s historic “authenticity.”
